DWC Day 6: What Is Your Favorite Quote?

Day 6: What is your favorite quote?
This one is really hard, because I’m really obsessed with inspiring quotes. As I wrote about in my last blog post, I have an entire Quotebook that is quickly being filled with these quotes. I’ve been sitting here thumbing through the pages trying to find one that I want to call my favorite. While I’m not sure I found a “favorite,” I did choose one to use for this entry.
“Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself, no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are–completely–the good and bad, and make changes as you see fit, not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” -Stacey Charter
This quote stuck out to be, because for a long time I was trying to change who I was to become who I thought everyone else wanted me to be. I tried to fit the image of what I thought a good person was and I had ideas in my head that weren’t true about what parts of myself made me a bad person. I don’t think there’s a definite set of values that make a person good, and you can’t rely on the perception of others to determine whether or not you’re good or bad. It took me way too long to accept myself as I am, and I lost a lot of time by trying to be someone that I wasn’t.
I don’t believe I’m a bad person. I am who I am, and I’ve accepted that about myself. If others don’t accept me for who I am, there’s nothing I can do about that.
PS: Enjoy some more quotes, because I think they’re awesome. ^_^
“In this world full of pain and sorry, maybe once in a lifetime, you’ll find someone who will make you feel wonderful. Hang on to that someone no matter what.” -Unknown
“Those people who tell me that I’m going to hell while they’re going to heaven somehow make me very glad that we’re going to separate destinations.” -Martin Terman
“Compassion is sometimes the fatal capacity for feeling what it is like to live inside somebody else’s skin. It is the knowledge that there can never really be any peace and joy for me until there is peace and joy finally for you too.” -Frederick Buecher
“We are not put on this earth for ourselves. We are put here for each other. If you are always there for others, then in times of need, someone will be there for you.” -Unknown
“Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.” -Bill Cosby
